How to add debit card to google account

Google Pay is the fast, simple way to pay in millions of places – online, in stores, and more. It brings together everything you need at checkout and keeps your payment info safe in your Google Account until you’re ready to pay.

Pay with your phone in stores: Google Pay works anywhere contactless payments are accepted. Just unlock your phone and hold it near the terminal. You don’t even need to open the app. When the blue check appears on screen, your transaction is complete. A receipt will be printed out, and you will also receive a notification on your mobile, so it's easy for your to keep track of your purchases. Simply look for the Google Pay logo

Speed through checkout online: With Google Pay, you can pay with a few quick clicks in apps and on the web. No need to enter your payment info. Simply look out for the Google Pay and /or Buy with Google Pay logo online.

You'll need to add a credit or debit card to your account to download paid apps and buy subscriptions on the Google Play Store. In this guide, we'll show you how to add a new card, update an existing card, or delete an expired card from your Google Play Store account.

Your new card should have a balance on it for the addition to be successful. Google will have to do a small reversible transaction to verify it.

How to Add a New Card to Your Google Play Account

Adding a card to your Google Play Store account should take about a minute, and it will be available on all Android devices with your Google account.

1. Open the Google Play Store on your device and tap your profile picture in the top right corner.
2. Go to Payments and subscriptions.
3. Tap the Payment methods option. If you've added a payment card before, you'll see it here.
4. Tap Add credit card or debit card, fill in all the requested card details, and tap the Save button.
5. Google will perform a small reversible transaction to approve your card.
6. Your card should now be available to make Play Store purchases.

On Android

1. On your Android device, open the Google app.
2. In the app, tap your profile photo.
3. Tap Manage your Google Account.
4. Scroll through the sections and look for Payments & subscriptions.
5. Tap Add payment method.
6. Choose an existing card or tap the plus icon with the text that leads Credit or debit card.
7. Scan the card with your camera or choose to enter the details manually.
8. Enter the information needed for either.
9. Follow the steps to authorize that payment method.

Whichever way you decide to add a payment method, you might have some steps that are unique to the bank tied to your card. Generally, the last few steps are easy to do and shouldn’t take long at all. Banks sometimes take a bit of time to authorize a credit or debit card, but no more than a few minutes.

Removing payment methods from your Google Account

Whether on desktop or on mobile, removing payment methods might be even easier than adding them. You might have to do this if a card expires, you lose one and have had it replaced, or you just don’t use the institution anymore.

If any of those things happen, you can follow these steps to remove a payment method from your Google Account:

1. In the Payments & subscriptions page in the Google app or at Google’s payments center online, look for the card you want to remove.
2. On desktop, click Remove under the payment method. On Android, tap the card and then hit the three-dot menu at the top, followed by Remove payment method.
3. Confirm removal.

Once you do this, you’ll need to add these cards again if you ever want to use them through Chrome or GPay, and maybe even Google Wallet in the future. The removal process isn’t ever permanent unless the card has been deactivated by your bank.

Managing payment activity

Lastly, there is an extra page that can come in handy for those who have subscriptions active with their Google Account. That page is the Activity section in your Google Account. Here, you can check when charges were created and how much they were for.

This page will show you Google subscriptions as well as payments made through Play services. For instance, purchases made through apps will appear here. This makes it easy to track your spending in-app.

Overall, being able to manage your payment methods is good practice since cards and bank accounts come and go. Keeping your Google Account up-to-date is not only safer but makes it easy to make payments online or through GPay since there’s less to scroll through in the end.
