How to identify which cartridge your Moen one or two handle bathroom faucet uses by handle operation and color images of the various cartridges.

Preparation: The water supply shut off valves must be turned off- see article How To Turn Off The Water Supply To The Faucet.

The chart below gives details to help identify which cartridge your faucet uses. If the installation year for the faucet is unknown, it may be necessary to remove the handle before you begin. For additional details on removing the handle, visit solutions.moen.com and select the type of faucet you are working on. The faucet guide will contain specific information on handle assemblies associated with that style of product.

Moen's Duralast cartridge (Fig. 1) is packaged under three different service kit numbers. Each service kit includes a different style of the cartridge retainer nut. When repairing the faucet, the cartridge retainer nut must be replaced. The cartridge retainer nuts are not interchangeable. You must identify the correct service kit.

How do I know which Moen faucet cartridge I need?

What is this? The easiest way to find the Moen shower valve replacement cartridge you need is to know the series or model number of your Moen bathroom faucet. Exact information for these comes with any paperwork you have received when you first installed the original shower faucet (hopefully you saved it).

Are all Moen single handle shower cartridges the same?

NO! While the Moen 1200 and the Moen 1225 cartridges are interchangeable, the Moen 1222 Posi Temp cartridge is absolutely not interchangeable with the Moen 1225 or 1200. In fact, there isn't any part that is interchangeable between the Moen 1222 vs 1225 replacement parts.

What is the difference between a 1222 and a 1225 Moen cartridge?

The Moen 1200 cartridges is for old faucets made before 2002. The Moen 1225, on the other hand, is for faucets made after 2002. You can control the volume of water with the Moen 1200 and 1225 cartridges, but not with the Moen 1222 cartridge.
