I found a few threads on this subreddit discussing How To export iMessages into PDF files

Here are a few

  1. How to convert entire iMessage to searchable PDF

  2. Can I export my iMessage history?

  3. Best way to export iMessage conversations?

These are definitely helpful! But every single conceivable option provided to export iMessages is a paid service!

Examples

(all of these will put up a pay wall before you can export your own iMessages)

  1. imyphone.com

  2. DecipherTools.com

  3. Copytrans.com

  4. iExplorer.com

  5. iMazing.com

  6. PhoneView from Ecamm.com

  7. iMobie.com

Has anyone made a free program to do this?

So many “scammy” companies are profiting off a small piece of code.

You wouldn’t think you would have to pay some company 35 dollars just to convert a file you already own? But I have searched for hours online and couldn’t find a single program that would do this for free.

Some of you might think I’m cheap, but I honestly don’t want to pay any of these companies out of principle! And Text messages are one of the most private forms of data you have! I’m not going to let some company handle that information.

I would be soo willing to pay a talented programmer to make a small free converting program to take the revenue away from these companies.

I feel as though I’m at a Damnn car dealership and the salesmen are trying to sell me the gas tank on a car I already bought.

As a user of iMazing ( iMazing.com for almost 7 years now, I wholeheartedly can vouch for it being an incredibly powerful utility, and I'd say definitely worth the purchase price. The company has been great with regular updates over the years and adding features, and very responsive to tech-support requests. You can definitely do messages exports but it can do so much more. It's a wonderful tool for a iPhone data hoarder!

Originally, I used a different utility called Decipher TextMessage for message exports (Decipher TextMessage ) - it's mostly dedicated to keeping a cumulative repository of iPhone messages and exporting them if desired, (the nice thing is you can also export them as HTML file with images and videos embedded.) Note: Decipher TextMessage reads the iOS backup file from where it's stored already on your computer and creates its own database of the messages. iMazing actually backs up the phone itself, and has a number of options for keeping incremental versions of that backup, etc. etc. which is very useful, as well as viewing and exporting almost everything else, like photos, voicemails, managing music library, etc., it does so much!

I still use both programs, and actually Decipher is my preferred tool for creating export archives of all messages, however my own situation became more complicated and I still have to figure out a solution to issues that became awkward for me using Decipher TextMessage (but those issues are very specific to my own particular situation, and not likely to present issues for others.)

Anyway, although neither program is free, the costs are reasonable and both allow you to test them out before purchase.
