How much does it cost to develop film

It’s not difficult to find lab/shops that still develop films in Singapore. There are several, but I’m economical so I go for the cheaper one. Although it is cheaper, their scan is not bad, enough for blog and social media uploads and the location is very convenient!

If you ask any film shooters in Singapore, they will more or less suggest ‘Triple D Lab’.

Update March 2020: I wrote a blogpost about another lab in Singapore- Whampoa Colour Centre.

Triple D Lab: cheap and good

Yup, if you are new to film photography, Triple D Lab is the one. Both the boss (Uncle Mike) and staff are friendly. One colour 35mm roll for developing and scanning is SGD $8.50 (As of 1 June 2017, it has increased to $9.50).

Since the price has increased, it’s no longer the cheapest place to develop & scan. But the difference is the most 50 cents?

You can browse their website to see the full price list.

If you include scanning, they give your photos in a form of CD, with a nice CD case.

As mentioned, even though their price is economical, their scan is good enough for blog and social medias purposes. If you intend to publish a Zine or anything alike, you might be able to ask for a higher resolution scan that of course comes with higher price. Or you can go to other sources for high res scan.

Express developing

If you send in your films before 2pm, you get it after 5pm on the same day. If you drop your film after 5pm, you can get your result back on the following day.

If you want the result in 1 hour, can!

That’s additional $2.50 per roll (as of 1 June 2017), so a total of $12 for express service! If you go to the developing shop (Konota) opposites Peninsula Hotel, they can develop film under 1 hour but the rate is about $12.50.

Convenient location

Triple D Lab, the shop with Fujifilm signboard

Since I live in Singapore, I have no problem for the wait. So I always go to Triple D Lab.

Furthermore, the location is extremely convenient and central. Just get off Bugis (for me) or Little India MRT Station, Google Map it and you will know the shop is within walking distance. Those film developing stores around City Hall MRT Station are convenient as well, such as Ruby Photo, where they serve as a drop-off point for Analog Film Lab.

Get your vintage film camera kicks at Filem, a shop in Kapo Factory Building that sells a range of 35mm and 120mm film cameras. Whether you want a fuss-free point-and-shoot, pick up your first SLR camera, or play around with rangefinders and medium format cameras, Filem has got 'em. Hell, you can even preorder the crazily famous Contax T2. The folks at Filem can also answer all your questions about film cameras, help you troubleshoot issues, or even service your cameras. Want to start shooting immediately? Filem also runs photowalks and film developing workshops.

Analog Film Lab

Despite not having a physical store in which you can stroll in to get your film rolls developed, Analog Film Lab plays the game differently from the others. The film lab accepts E-6, C-41 and B/W films for processing and are handled by fellow photographers as well, so mailed films will be handled with utmost care.

Looking for a dark-room to process your own films? Analog Film Lab rents out a darkroom for those who want first-hand experience in making black and white prints out of your own negatives.

How much does film cost in Singapore?

Here is a short overview of 2D Ticket Prices in Singapore in 2022..

Where is it cheapest to get film developed?

PROS – Because most towns has a local Walmart, they're convenient to use for prints and film developing. Walmart has one of the lowest prices for developing film, about $7.49 for a 12 exposure roll, images on a CD and a single set of prints.

Is it cheaper to develop your own film?

That depends on what developer you use (and there are a lot of choices), but generally, the costs for chemicals will be between 50 cents and $1 per roll for 35mm, with 120-size film costing just a few cents more. Yes, you read that right—it generally costs less than a buck a roll to do your own B&W developing.
