Evenflo pivot xpand travel system with safemax infant car seat

Evenflo offers seven different types of travel systems and I got my hands on the Pivot Xpand Travel System. Even though they make multiple travel systems, this one stood out from the others for a number of reasons.

The first reason I really liked this travel system was because it can hold two children without needing any extra attachments. The SafeMax infant car seat is included and there’s another seat in the stroller that can hold a toddler in an upright position or an infant in a reclining position.

All I had to do was place the car seat in the handle area and there was no room for another child in the front.

I was able to convert the stroller into 22 different modes so that the transitions were smooth. These were done so easily and flawlessly. No extra tools needed. Other than that, this travel system had everything that comparable units had including the storage basket, swiveling wheels, canopy, and compact fold design.

Lastly, I felt like my child was safe when they were in the stroller. The five-point harness kept them secure enough and they could recline while buckled. The only issue I had was with the wheels. They didn’t work well on surfaces that weren’t flat and smooth.

For the price and everything you get with this travel system, I do recommend it. If you combine the price of a car seat and a double stroller, it would cost much more if you bought them separately rather than all-in-one.

Expendable

Expandable strollers are incredibly popular these days.  They grow with your family and offer parents a huge variety of travel options.

Evenflo’s Pivot Xpand includes a SafeMax infant car seat and a second seat (aka sibling seat) that will hold either a toddler in an upright position or another infant in a reclining position.

Reclining Car Seat

As a bonus, the second seat will recline enough to turn into a bassinet. This can be a super handy feature with sleeping kiddos while you’re out and about. This travel system also gives parents up to 22 different modes of use and includes everything you need to make the transitions smooth.  You won’t have to buy any extra parts or use any hand tools.

Modular Design

The Pivot Xpand’s modular design is unique.  It can hold one or two kiddos safely in multiple recline positions for added comfort, plus use each seat in either a rear-facing or a forward-facing position.

Luckily, Evenflo recognizes that babies come with a lot of stuff, so they’ve designed an extra-large basket underneath to hold everything you’ll need, and then some. The front wheels swivel, and the back wheels have suspension, making it easier to maneuver and giving kids a smoother ride overall.

The extra-large canopy will also protect little ones from the weather, and the “silent” peek-a-boo window lets us still keep an eye on things without waking anyone up. When not in use, Pivot Xpand will fold up and stand by itself, making storage simple too.

Evenflo products are held to the highest safety standards, and the Pivot Xpand is no exception.  The included Evenflo SafeMax Infant Car seat accommodates babies from 4 to 35 pounds and 17 to 32 inches tall.

The car seat also comes with a removable infant body pillow and a SafeZone base with an anti-rebound bar, which can help limit movement in case of a crash.

Exceeds Federal Standards

This car seat also meets or exceeds all federal side-impact testing standards and is certified for use in an airplane. It can be attached to the travel system securely in the upper position, giving parents a smooth transition from car to stroller.

The sibling seat also has a five-point, adjustable safety harness and can accommodate kids up to 55 pounds.  This seat attaches to the lower position and offers three different reclines for both safety and comfort.

Easy To Convert

The sibling seat can also be converted into a bassinet, if needed, and includes a removable bumper bar with a small snack tray. You’ll find the Pivot Xpand’s parking break down by the rear wheel on the right-hand side of the stroller.

It’s easy to use, even in flip-flops, and the whole System is just easy to maneuver. If you ever used a stroller that drives badly, you know that this is an incredibly important feature for both safety and sanity.

User-Friendly Features

Parents rave that the Pivot Xpand Modular Travel System also has a wide variety of features that just make life easier.First and foremost, the Travel System can grow with your family.

Multiple Configurations

With 22 configurations to choose from and a 55-pound weight limit (for the sibling seat), you’ll also be able to use the System for a longer period. Additionally, adjust the five-point harnesses from the front, the seats are lightweight, and they attach to the stroller frame with just a simple click.

Plus, the ability to utilize both seats in either a rear-facing or a forward-facing position helps keep kids happier while they’re riding along at different stages.

The Pivot Xpand has a unique “slide and lock system,” which includes all of the adapters needed to switch between modes easily.  These adapters are also built into the System and can be stored right in the stroller when not in use. You won’t have to worry about losing any of the pieces-parts.

User-Friendly Features

A few more of the user-friendly features on the Pivot Xpand include an ergonomic handlebar that can be adjusted in three different positions, giving parents ultimate pushing comfort and an extra-large basket that expands up to two feet.

You can also adjust the sibling seat with just one hand, and five different footrest positions keep toddlers comfy as they get taller. The System even offers a decent amount of padding to keep kids comfortable as they ride along and includes a convenient cup holder up top.

The Pivot Xpand will also fold compactly, with or without the sibling seat.  You can also remove the belly bar so the System can fit in the majority of trunk spaces.

Key User-Friendly Features

  • 22 configurations
  • Up-front harness adjustment (Infant Car Seat)
  • Use both seats either rear- or front-facing
  • Built-in “slide and lock” adaptors
  • Five-foot rest positions (Sibling Seat)
  • Included cup holder
  • Compact storage for most trunk spaces

Parent Frustrations

Like most Systems out there, the Pivot Xpand Modular Travel System also receives its share of parent complaints.

The most common issue users have is with the wheels. They are a little small and only work well on hard surfaces.  This is definitely not a stroller you want to take on hiking trails, through the grass, or if you have to deal with slush and snow.

Also, some parents complain that the wheels don’t move as smoothly as they should. They can jam up and get stuck, which can cause an immediate safety issue if you’re already traveling forward.

Additionally, parents comment that while the sibling seat folds flat, it doesn’t fold completely flat.  You won’t be able to use this option with babies younger than about three months old.

The sibling seat also doesn’t have a cover for the buckle.  In warmer weather, this seems to cause comfortability issues. Finally, since it’s a complete Travel System that holds two kids up to 55 pounds, it’s pretty heavy.  Weighing in just over 36 pounds when fully assembled, it definitely gives you a workout!

Key Frustrations

  • Not suitable for trails, grass, or snow
  • Sibling seat doesn’t fold flat
  • Wheels can stick
  • No buckle cover on the sibling seat
  • Heavy

Expiration

Since federal safety standards are ever-changing, Evenflo sets expiration dates on all of its child-safety products.  Therefore, the Pivot Xpand Modular Travel System will expire six years after the date of manufacture. You can find the date of manufacture and expiration date directly on the System.

Warranty

The Pivot Xpand Modular Travel System comes with a standard 90-day warranty to protect against any manufacturing defects.

Comparable Model

Evenflo offers another Travel System model that resembles the Pivot Xpand, simply called the Pivot.  Both systems are modular and include the SafeMax Infant Car Seat, an extra-large basket, cup holder, and a large canopy with a peek-a-boo window. They also have similar, pavement-friendly tires and stand by themselves when stored.

The main difference between these two systems is simple.  The Pivot holds one child, and the Pivot Xpand holds two.

Along the same lines, you are only able to configure the Pivot in six different ways.

That might seem like a lot, but in comparison to Pivot Xpand’s 22 configurations, it falls a bit short. Also, the stroller weight limit of the Pivot is a bit lower, supporting kids up to 50 pounds, whereas the Xpand is five pounds higher.

Finally, the Pivot is obviously going to be found at a lower price point, since it’s a single stroller as opposed to a double, and this version will work best for families with only one child.

Similarities

  • Modular travel systems
  • SafeMax Infant Car Seat included
  • Extra-large basket
  • Cupholder
  • Large canopy with viewing window
  • Pavement-friendly tires.
  • Stand-alone storage

Differences

  • Single vs. double stroller options
  • Six vs. 22 configurations
  • Stroller weight limit of 50 pounds vs. 55 pounds
  • Lower price point for the single stroller option
