could be as simple as a fuse or relay. Check that first.

I will check the fuse and relay, where would I find the relay?

the switch is on the dash, not the handle, not sure if thats how the wj's are or not.

Most likely it is the DRM - Daytime running light module. It is located on the back side of the fuse box under the hood, IIRC.

My ZJ is from Canada, and the DRL's don't work either. Just haven't gotten around to replacing it.

I was thinking later that it would not be a fuse, as the daytime lights and head lights are the same light, just different settings right, so the fuse would be the same one, I will lok into the light module, thanks.

did you get the DRL's fixed? i tried replacing my bulbs, and cant seem to find a fuse for the HL's so im thinking it might be the DRL module. Other members are saying its under the dash - does anyone have a picture of what it looks like?

Wow, you are wanting to fix your DRLs and I want to get rid of that "feature" in my ZJ. I think I have figured out enough of the wiring to disable DRL. Haven't had time to work on the jeep lately, not until the bathroom remodel is done.

BTW, in the older ZJs, the DRL module is under the dash.

My DRM actually smoked itsself one day when i got home from work. I kept smelling something burning like plastic and when I got home my headlights didn't turn off and then I saw smoke coming from under my hood. I opened the hood carefully and that's when I found my DRM cooked. My jeep has been fine without it for 4 years now, the only downside to not having it is that my dash indicator for my brights does not come on when I do put the brights on.

Hey cologc46, ya wanna sell me your DRM?

Well, I am not sure. My ZJ is a 94, and from what I read in threads here on JF is the DRL is under the dash near the steering column. I have not yet got under there to work on it.

And, sorry Chris_nm1, my DRL module is not for sale. In this model year of ZJ, a number of wiring nets go through the DRL module and if you yank it out, other things stop working. What I want to do is just disable DRL. I think that can be done by cutting the wire coming from the park brake and grounding the stub going into the DRL module.

I want to do this because I am putting in Kolak's headlight wiring harness to improve the voltage to the bulbs (and thus brightness).

To get rid of Daytime Running Lights you just have to pull the plug out of the module under the fuse/relay housing on the pass. side wheel well. My 98 5.9 GC came from Canada where they are required and when I installed Euro housings, Relays and H-4 bulbs the Daytime Running Lights overheated and cooked the new relays (because of the lower voltage) in the add on wiring harness and the guy at the dealer showed me where it was and said to just pull the plug.

Jennifer. Thanks for the post. My 94 model does not have this DRL module under the fuse box. Instead, DRL comes from a module under the dash. I wish it was as easy as yours. Sometime during the 94 model year, Mopar changed, because the FSM shows both DRL setups. Yuck.

Did you ever resolve the issue with the DTR? If so, what was the solution?

Why are my daytime running lights not working?

If only one daytime running light is not working, it most likely has a burnt out bulb or a bad switch. Remove the socket from the light and see if the bulb is dark or if the filament is burned out, which means it needs to be replaced.

How do I know if my DRL module is bad?

Symptoms of a Bad or Failing Daytime Running Lamp Module.
Daytime running lamps do not come on..
Daytime running lamps stay on while the car is off..
Burning smell..

How do you make daytime running lights come on?

The Daytime Running Lights are set to turn on automatically when the engine is running and the truck is in drive. If the headlights are off or in parking mode, the Daytime Running Lights will automatically turn on.

What is a DRL fuse?

1 Answer: Agilan. Locate the "DRL" or "Daytime Running Lamp" fuse. If you are unsure of the fuse location, consult your vehicle's owner's manual.
