Why does my trunk keep popping open

Trunk kept popping open

This morning I kept the laptop bag in my trunk when car was locked and it kept popping up 4-5 times when I stepped back from the car. Finally unlocked the car and locked it and did not get the issue, any idea what it could be? Was the kick sensor triggering? I was a foot back from the car.

Saw a post recently that someones trunk wouldn't close and the reason was their key fob was sitting in the trunk. If true, maybe yours was too close to some sensor.

My keyfob was in my pocket, next time it happens do i take it out and keep it in some other pocket, did not try that

I've not had that happen per se, but I have had my trunk open because of the key being jammed in my front pocket under my wallet and it hit the trunk release button long enough to trigger it. That's why I have a case on my key despite the added bulk.

My car started to do this - I took it to the dealer and they said a software update was required. Hadn't done it again since, and the new software also brings many other benefits!

I hope not as am terrified of software updates screwing up other features. What new benefits you got out of the software update? Secondly i dont see how software update can fix a trunk latch issue, as of now i am not 100% sure if it is a car issue or the keyfob button got pressed accidentally when it was in my pocket. didnt happen on way back from work.

I've had the same issue before getting keyfob case. Probably had the trunk release button pressed accidentally before I drove off. Fortunately, I noticed it after 30 seconds and pulled over and shut it. Decided to get the alcantara keyfob case after that incident and haven't had the issue since.

I had a key fob case, so I was sure it was opening by itself. They seemed to know that there was an update for it. Have you heard that the 2016 cars have a different sound to the 2015s? Software update does that - my car sounds much better since the update. Also updates the M HUD to show the revs more clearly in blue.

Same thing has started happening to me in the first few weeks of driving the car.
It only happens when I close the trunk manually and then seconds later the tail lights blink twice and the trunk opens.
Sometimes 2 times in a row.
I always have my keyfob in my front pocket but was either wearing slacks or shorts, no tight clothing for me.
I installed m performance diffuser immediately after taking delivery so not sure if that has anything to do with it.
I'll have them check it out on my 1200 mile.

I had the M Performance diffuser installed at the port. I don't believe the kick sensor was disabled, or there's a software bug with whatever rev is on my M3. Walking anywhere near the trunk with the car unlocked results in the trunk opening.

I was already planning to have them disable the sensor at break in service, but perhaps I'll ask for whatever the latest software version is to be flashed as well.

Also happening to me after installing a cf rear diffuser. Its freakin annoying. I close the trunk and it opens when i walk away or sometimes i get in the car and the fcker opens again.

A few days ago I took something out of my trunk and shut it before I ran into my office for a second. When I came out, I saw my trunk was wide open in the parking lot.

I had this happen to me in the fkn carwash (touchless of course). Lucky for me it was during the air dry and not when the jets were spraying my car.

My best guess is that my foot sensor somehow got activated by the water.

I've had my trunk pop open in the past...this probably bc of me sitting on them. I just lock my trunk. Better safe than sorry.
