Why am i still getting imessages from a blocked number

  • When you block someone's number on your iPhone, that number can't call, text, or FaceTime you.
  • The blocked number can still leave you voicemails, but they'll be sorted away from your regular voice mailbox.
  • Blocking someone's number on your iPhone doesn't prevent that person from contacting you through third-party apps like WhatsApp.

When you block someone's number, your iPhone doesn't care who it is — their phone number will be completely shut out of your life.

At least, their text messages, phone calls, and FaceTime calls will be. Blocking a number on your iPhone can't prevent that person from reaching out via third-party apps like Facebook, WhatsApp, or Instagram, unfortunately.

But what does it look like on the blocked person's end? Can they tell that they've been blocked?

Here's everything that happens after you block someone on your iPhone.

What happens when you block a number on your iPhone

Blocked text messages disappear

When someone that you've blocked texts you, their texts go nowhere. They won't receive any notification that they're blocked, and their messages will still look like they've been sent. But you won't receive any of them, and you can't respond.

The text message they send won't say "Delivered" under it. iPhone

Blocked FaceTime calls ring forever

When someone you've blocked tries to FaceTime you, their phone will simply ring and ring without an answer. Nothing happens on your end, and you won't know that they're calling.

It'll go on like this until the blocked caller gives up and stops trying to call.

Blocked phone calls go straight to voicemail

When someone you've blocked calls you, they'll be sent right to your voicemail, as if your phone was turned off. This is their only clue that you blocked them.

The blocked caller can still leave a voicemail, but it won't show up with your regular messages. Instead, you need to scroll down to the bottom of the voicemail window and tap the Blocked Messages option.

Your blocked voicemails are sorted into a different folder. William Antonelli/Insider

go to settings > messages > then scroll down to blocked and it should show all the numbers you blocked. if the number your receiving messages from is not on the list, maybe you accidentally pressed unblock or there’s a glitch.

So, I blocked this person on my phone and I have confirm they are indeed blocked, but I am still receiving iMessages from them. I am on iOS 12 beta 5 so I am wondering if this is a bug or something? Any ideas how to get this person to be blocked for real as they are spamming me with messages? Thanks

is it possible they are sending the message to your e-mail and not your phone number? I used to get a lot of spam in messages until I limited it to phone number only.

Well I know how to check that lol. I was wondering how to check to see which one the person is sending the message to. Whether it is my email or my phone number. Thanks.

That is completely irrelevant. Who cares. Any message coming from a blocked number to your device, whether it is sent to your phone number or email address or whatever, should not show up.

Well it does and I am not sure why. I just updated to beta 6 today on iOS 12 so I will see if this is still and issue or not. Thanks.

If you added it to a generic contact name like "SPAM" etc, that has multiple blocked numbers or emails associated with it, you must press that contact name again to readd it as a whole to the block list so the list properly updates for the latest addition to it.

Could be sending the texts via an SMS mail relay. For example, a Verizon user, one can send an email to which will show on that specific phone number's text message app/screen. Makes it real easy to just queue them up.

I know ATT had an option for turning that off for one's phone number. Guessing the other two have similar.

Why am I still getting iMessages from a blocked number iPhone?

If an iMessage, did you block the number, or the Apple ID. If you just added the number, then it may be coming from the Apple ID. If you blocked the contact, make sure it includes the number and caller ID. Apple ID would work for iMessage.

Why do I still receive messages from blocked numbers?

Android phones move all blocked messages into a folder on the phone called “Spam and Blocked.” That means that the phone is still collecting messages from the blocked people; they just aren't notifying you.
