The Society for Collegiate Leadership & Achievement (SCLA) honors students’ achievement and empowers them to be the leaders of tomorrow. We aim to maximize student potential through our powerful, customized skills development platform, vibrant mentor and peer community, and competency-based certification. SCLA offers a customized experience with practical exercises, exclusive webinars and events, and mentoring to help students develop skills and apply them in real-life situations. Our members become leaders who stand out from the crowd!

Membership Overview

• Invitations are sent quarterly, via E-Mail
• SCLA always welcomes new qualified members. A membership application may be completed and submitted. A membership team will review the submitted application and respond promptly.
   

Membership Requirements

• Undergraduate students must have completed a minimum of 13.5 undergraduate credit hours including transfer credits.
• Undergraduate students must maintain a 2.7 GPA or better.
• Graduate students must have accumulated nine or more credit hours.
• Graduate students must maintain a 3.0 GPA or better.

Q: How involved do I have to be?
A: The SCLA online platform is available 24 hours a day. SCLA recognizes that each student has a different schedule that can sometimes come with non-traditional hours. The online platform is completely self-guided and all of the benefits are voluntary so that students can be engaged as their schedules permit.

Q: How much does the membership cost?
A: SCLA’s lifetime membership fee is $95. There are no other recurring fees.

I joined, currently i’m in 3 honor societies:

Phi Theta kappa (PTK) National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) Society of collegiate Leadership & Achievement (SCLA)

My honest opinion, it is worth depending on how you use it, the sad part is that it is not cheap to become a member, around $60 for each, now depends a lot on how well you can take advantages of your benefits

This apply to most of not all these honor societies, making connections is a big one along with the help on your resume, even if it is not well known it might give a little boost because they sound pretty, that plus the things you get on the mail which are also pretty cool

Now for the content itself, I am new to NSHSS and SCLA but i have a friend who has been there for a while and can give some input,

First my input on PTK, they offer multiple opportunities for scholarships, they even apply you to it automatically every semester it is a definitive yes for me

NSHSS, I don’t know if exactly what to expect from it but the perks seemed to me that is was worth the price plus the pretty things in the mail which is just for looks

SCLA the in topic, they offer internship opportunities and also many other things, certificates and a lot of things you can learn also the usual connections and perks, if you want to join and get the maximum out of it look for a 3.7 gpa on the transcript.

Overall, it is not the greatest thing ever, depends a lot on how well and how long you will use also how you are gonna use it, if you are here either you don’t see why to join or you are trying to get convinced to, I would say to join ONLY if you see a use for it, it will not greatly increase your chances in anything besides jobs because of the fancy name if they don’t do a really deep research on it
