Places To Take Your Dog To Swim In New Jersey
Sun, sand, and surf are the perfect ingredients for a perfect summer day. Luckily for you, New Jersey is full of places that you and your furry friend can swim together.
Asbury Park offers a beautiful beach for you and your pooch. September 16th-May 15th both the Boardwalk and the 8th Avenue Dog Beach are open to pets all day. During the summer months, however, dog visiting hours are restricted to between the hours of 6:00p.m. and 8:30a.m. daily. To ensure the beach remains clean and family friendly please be sure that your pets are licensed, non-aggressive and leashed at all times. Be polite and clean up after your pets using the convenient waste stations.
Another option is Longport Dog Beach located at Malibu Beach Wildlife Management area is an off-leash beach with beautiful sand and water. Locals do say that parking can be tricky as there aren’t many spaces available but if you’re willing to wait a few minutes for a parking space, people are always coming and going. If you and Fido stop by Longport Dog Beach, keep in mind that there aren’t public restrooms or water fountains so plan ahead
Wildwood Dog Beach, formerly known as Poplar Avenue Beach is a beautiful area that features a dog-friendly boardwalk that spans nearly two blocks. This dog-friendly beach offers fresh water and doggie waste bags. Wildwood is open year round from 6a.m. until dusk and is free to use. You won’t miss it either, as it features a 25-foot high fire hydrant sculpture sure to entice your pooch.
If you’re looking for a larger space for your four-legged friend to run around in, check our Timber Creek Park. The park itself is over 60 acres and 9 of those acres are a fenced dog park. Leashed dogs are also permitted on the many trails located throughout the park. There is a small lake where the whole family can swim as well as playgrounds, public restrooms, picnic tables and benches.
Sunset Beach has many pet-friendly options. Beginning mid-September through mid-April leashed dogs are welcome at the beach. Make a day of it and have lunch at The Grille at one of their pet-friendly outdoor tables. Dogs are also welcome at Sunset Beach Gifts if you’re browsing for local souvenirs and collectibles.
Brigantine Beach is open year round and welcomes all dogs along the north end of the beach as long as they’re on a 6-foot or shorter leash. Other areas of the beach are also dog-friendly but only between October and May.
If you and your furry friend aren’t fond of the beach but do like to swim you should visit Morris Animal Inn which has an indoor dog pool. You should call ahead because the pool is available by reservation only but can be incorporated into any grooming or boarding services. A complementary life jacket is provided and if your pet needs assistance in and out of the water Morris Animal Inn offers a lift system.
However you and your pet choose to spend your summer it will be sure to go swimmingly.
