New york life financial advisor training program

We’re serious about training: Our NYLIC University and comprehensive Agent and management training curriculum form the backbone of our Agency system.

NYLIC U courses span Agents' entire careers, from pre-contract training through practice succession planning. More than that, NYLIC U helps Agents brings their careers to life, helping them implement what they have learned on a daily basis with new prospects and clients.

There are six distinct career development stages that carry new Agents through their first three years.

New agent development (Years 1-3)

  • Career Orientation - Training actually begins before an Agent signs his/her contract. Career Orientation offers an overview of the career and helps prospective Agents know what to expect from Day One
  • Fundamental Career School - Provides the skills technical and administrative knowledge Agents need to succeed
  • Basic Career School - Reinforces Fundamental Career School and expands Agents' knowledge
  • Intermediate Career Course - Broadens Agents' knowledge of product and services

  • The Associates Program - Introduces the agent to more advanced areas of Estate Planning, Retirement Planning, and working with Small Business Owners.

In addition, during their first three years, new Agents are encouraged to begin registered representative and Securities license training.

Experienced agent development

After their third year, Agents still have a wide variety of career development opportunities available through NYLIC University.

  • Graduate Path to Market Excellence - six series of courses that touch the advanced planning areas/on a graduate level each culminating with a Leaders For Life Conference at the NYLIC U Dallas Campus

Mentoring Program

In addition to formal training, we encourage experienced and newer Agents to work together in mentoring relationships, either informally or through the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) Mentoring Program. The company provides special incentives to Agents who take advantage of this opportunity. The MDRT is one of the most prestigious production-based national and international organizations in the insurance industry.

What You Will Do: In considering any career change, many questions may arise, such as: What will be my responsibilities? How will I be trained? How will I be compensated? The answers to these questions depend on many factors. When you offer insurance or financial services, you're not merely selling products, you're developing relationships. Your relationship with your customers, as well as the trust they place both in you and in the products you offer, are critical components to your ultimate success. Agents provide very intimate services in the insurance and financial services marketplace. They meet with and know their clients on a personal level. The responsibilities of an agent include: contacting new people, meeting with them and fact-finding to gather necessary information regarding their present situation, providing analysis of situations and, ultimately, presenting solutions that help meet objectives.

Sales Training and Career Development: If you are selected to join New York Life, you'll make a commitment to the Company, but the Company will also make a commitment to you. With New York Life, you embark on a lifetime of learning and professional development through comprehensive training in insurance and financial services.

Professional development occurs through NYLIC University. It's a program designed to train and develop agents throughout their sales careers. The first phase is Career Development School, during which you'll begin the process of getting your insurance licenses. You'll receive a full introduction to products and selling skills, including how to develop your client base.

After an initial six months of sales training, you'll spend two years in the Associate Program, an intensive experience that's focused on life insurance marketing, product selling, and technical knowledge. Upon completion, you'll be on your way to developing expertise in a selected area in the workplace or in the personal market, addressing individual needs.

The next level of NYLIC University is the School of Professional Development, which offers specialized courses combining class instruction with self-study. New York Life strongly encourages its agents to make a commitment to lifetime learning. For this reason the Company provides tuition reimbursement to Agents and Registered Representatives upon completion of certain industry courses.

As your sales career develops, you may wish to move into management. The Company is structured to support you in reaching this goal. Many of today's senior executives began their careers as sales agents in the field.
