The Disney sequel sees Maleficent and her goddaughter Aurora begin to question the complex family ties that bind them. They are pulled in different directions by Aurora's impending nuptials, unexpected allies and dark new forces at play. The years have been kind to Maleficent and Aurora. When an unexpected encounter introduces a powerful new alliance, Maleficent and Aurora are pulled apart to opposing sides in a great war, testing their loyalties and causing them to question whether they can truly be family. Disney Digital Spy gave the film three out of five stars in our Maleficent 2 review, which said: "It's dark without being too dark and visually bold enough to justify a big-screen viewing, although it definitely misses the subversive twist of the first movie. You will leave with the frustration that it could have been so much more." As for a third movie, director Joachim Rønning isn't against one and could see how the world continues. But that doesn't mean there will be one, as he told Digital Spy: "We'll see... let's see how this goes and take it from there." Disney The sequel made over $491 million globally, however it needed to pull in approximately $500 million in order to break even, taking into account the production budget, marketing and distribution costs. Whether this impacts the future of the franchise remains to be seen. If a hard copy is more your thing, the DVD version is available to order for £9.99, while the Blu-ray is currently £14.99.
