The Social Security Administration assigns Social Security numbers, and administers the Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance programs. They also administer the Supplemental Security Income program for the aged, blind, and disabled.

To avoid waiting in line, I strongly encourage people who can, to use our online services, call us, and schedule appointments in advance rather than walking in without an appointment.

Phone appointments can save you a trip to a busy office. I thank the public for your patience as we work to increase service.

Customers who walk in without appointments may encounter delays and longer waits at our offices. Before coming to an office, we encourage you to visit our Emergency page to check the office status. Be aware that our offices tend to be the busiest first thing in the morning, early in the week, and during the early part of the month, so people may want to plan to visit at other times.

Given that many of the people we serve have health vulnerabilities, and consistent with our union agreements, we are continuing to require certain safety measures including masking (regardless of local guidance), physical distancing, and self-health checks for COVID-19 symptoms. We will provide masks to the public and employees if they need them.

Online Services and telephone remain the most convenient ways to contact the agency.

Most Social Security services are available to the public online and with a my Social Security account, or by telephone. And most Social Security services do not require the public to take time to visit an office. People may create their my Social Security account, a personalized online service, on our website. Many Social Security services are also conveniently available by dialing toll-free, 1‑800‑772‑1213. People who are deaf or hard of hearing may call Social Security’s TTY number, 1‑800‑325‑0778.

As we transition to a new modern phone system, some people may experience a busy signal or be unintentionally disconnected from their call. We sincerely regret this disruption and recommend people call when our National 800 Number may be less busy, such as before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m. local time or later in the week. Like our offices, our waits are generally shorter later in the month.

   I WOULD LIKE TO HVE A COPY OF MY AWARD LETTER APRIL 1993 FOR SSDI I NEED TO PROVE % OF DISABILITY TO NEW YORK STATE FOR REDUCTION OF PROPERTY TAXES , being single since may 22 /2022 ,living alone , divorced,,,disabled,,, i am asking for a reduction based on m,y disability my SOLE income. and they need this proof to adjust my property taxes , send AWARD LETTER SSDI 1993 to tim harrington 486 hammerle rd. 13830
   they won’t accept unless says (award letter) and (%disability?)

   Many residents are looking for online appointment system. Unfortunately the phone line is always busy and get disconnected. We know that we can go in person visit and wait outside the office for hours. Rather, we would like to get an appointment online and go at that time to avoid waiting outside SSN office for hours.

   Please provide online appointment system and please fix the phone service so people can talk to live person.

     I agree with Ramesh A. There should be a way an appointment can be made online for services at any Social Security office. And as far as calling, sometimes it’s just a waste of time.

     I utilize a walker and to have to go to the office and sit for hours just to take care of simple SSI business is too much for me. And then if you mail the information, there is a possibility that the information will end up in the wrong office (which happened to me before and no one responded to inform me that documents I sent in were sent to the wrong address) and not get stamped “return to sender”, that way their documents would at least be returned back to them with their information included on them. Once they received them back, then they could attempt to locate the correct office to mail important information.

     So hopefully you will consider allowing appointments to made online. It would be better for the claimant and the workers as well.

     What is the maximum Social Security benefit?

     The maximum benefit depends on the age you retire. For example, if you retire at full retirement age in 2022, your maximum benefit would be $3,345. However, if you retire at age 62 in 2022, your maximum benefit would be $2,364. If you retire at age 70 in 2022, your maximum benefit would be $4,194.

     How do I check my Social Security?

     You can get your Social Security Statement (Statement) online by using your personal my Social Security account. Your online Statement gives you secure and convenient access to estimates for retirement, disability, and survivors benefits you and your family may be eligible for.
