Stay Safe With Carbon Monoxide DetectorsA carbon monoxide detector keeps your home safe by sensing invisible but dangerous carbon monoxide (CO) gas. CO detector sensors alert you using loud sirens or strobe lights, giving you a chance to get to safety. Detectors come in many varieties and are an important safety feature for any home. You can begin operating a carbon monoxide detector simply by plugging it into a wall outlet. Battery-operated carbon monoxide detectors will work even when your home’s power goes out. They feature mechanisms to alert you when batteries need changing. Paired detectors alert a second sensor if carbon monoxide is detected, which is a great feature for larger homes or offices. The placement of carbon monoxide detectors should be on the wall at least 5 feet from the floor and within 10 feet of a bedroom. First Alert carbon monoxide alarms come in plug-in or battery-operated versions and are available in packs of two. Smart carbon monoxide detectors can be paired with your smart device to keep you in the know when you’re away from home. Some systems offer both carbon monoxide and smoke detection for two-in-one protection. Shop at Lowe’s to find the best carbon monoxide detector to keep your home and family safe. Is First Alert or Kidde better?First Alert has better features than the Kidde because of the alarm system with a verbal warning of the threat.
How long does a First Alert smoke and carbon monoxide alarm last?Smoke alarms should be replaced 10 years from the date of manufacture. Combo smoke/CO alarms should be replaced after 5-7 years (depending on the model). Put the alarm back on the ceiling or wall if it is less than 10 years old. Replace alarm(s) older than 10 years with new units.
Are combo smoke and carbon monoxide detectors good? All three detector types offer standalone and interconnected varieties. Few combination detectors are effective at detecting carbon monoxide, smoldering fires, and flaming fires, which is why we recommend that consumers use a combination of detectors in their homes for complete protection.
Why is my First Alert smoke and carbon monoxide detector beeping?1 Beep Every Minute: Low Battery. It is time to replace the batteries in your carbon monoxide detector. 5 Beeps Every Minute: End of Life. This type of chirp indicates it is time to replace your carbon monoxide alarm.
