Kitchen ideas with black stainless steel appliances

As I’m sure you know, we very recently finished our modern farmhouse kitchen makeover.

While we changed virtually the entire kitchen, one of the most impactful changes has to be the new Samsung black stainless steel appliances we incorporated from The Home Depot, which we first talked about here.

The Features We Love

There were several factors that went into our appliance choices for the kitchen.

Of course one of the things we love most about our new appliances is their black stainless steel finish.

While looking clean and modern, the black stainless reads a bit more formal than regular stainless. Which is a perfect look to have when the kitchen is very open to the living and dining rooms. Not too black and not too shiny. #justright #goldilocksreference

But ultimately each of the three major appliances in our modern farmhouse kitchen also have their own features that we adore.

The Fridge

As we mentioned in our previous appliance post, we had almost the exact same fridge in our last house. You know, the one we visited on date nights for ages before we could actually buy it.

The new one is simply a little larger (because there was space for larger) and a different finish (the old one was regular stainless).

We chose almost the identical model again here because we loved its:

1. Water and ice dispenser being on the outside of the fridge. Some models have their water tap and ice maker inside. But we didn’t want the kids opening the doors every time they wanted a drink of water.
2. Ice dispenser not taking up space on the door. Some models had big bulky ice makers on the left door, which was at about head height for me and very in-your-face, which I didn’t like. Instead ours is inside on the upper left out of the way.
3. Plentiful drawers and storage buckets. We have teenagers. We also love our condiments. So lots of storage configuration options were a must have.

The Dishwasher

Honestly this dishwasher was chosen almost entirely based on the fact that it matched the other black stainless steel appliances and was also a Samsung. (I like matchy-matchy with my appliances but not so much my other decor. Weird, right?)

It also happens to be extremely quiet, and has an adjustable upper rack which we didn’t know at first.

You see, because the kids and I are home all day, we use a lot of dishes. And we have normal sized dinner plates and large travel mugs and pots and pans, etc. Well when the dishwasher was delivered it came with the upper rack on the lowest setting. Which meant when we loaded the bottom rack normally, on a few occasions we inadvertently blocked the spinner from spinning. Which meant the water stayed on for a long time, pouring directly at the door. Which meant that darn thing leaked like three times. But that was entirely our own fault.

I’d recommend reading the little user manual booklets that come with new appliances. #thereforareason

The Range

The range. Oh the range.

I was in love with this range the moment I laid eyes on it.

I mean, just look at its smooth finish, clean top (no dials, etc. on the back) and gas-range-look-without-any-dangerous-indoor-flames (I’m a little clumsy).

And it has both a regular baking oven, a convection feature, meat thermometer and a drawer that glides on proper rails (vs the old kind that meant the drawer got stuck all the time). Plus the inside is SO big.

(The only drawback we’ve found with the range is that when you lock the controls, the dials for the stove top elements still function. This is fine for us, but if you have toddlers who may mess around with these things, you might want to find a range that either has the controls at the back like a traditional stove, or one that locks out all of the controls.)

Given that we’ve renovated (in one way or another) each of our last four kitchens, we are loving this new kitchen most of all.

And our new Samsung black stainless steel appliances from The Home Depot play a huge part in that!
