Your Debit Card Information

Debit Card Number

The sixteen digits on your card is your debit card number. It is unique to your checking account but different from your account number. You'll have to read off or enter this number when making a purchase over the phone or online. This is the most important number on the card so be sure to not share or lose this information.

Debit Card CVV Code

A CVV code is a three- or four-digit code (depending on your credit card company) and is also known as the security code. On Visa, Mastercard, and Discover cards, you can find the three-digit number on the back of your card. If you have an American Express card, this four-digit number is on the front. The CVV code is another added measure of security to protect your bank account.

Debit Card Expiration Date

On your debit card, there is a date that is listed next to the phrase “valid thru.” This date is the month and year (MM/YY) your debit card is valid until—in other words, the card expires after that day in that month. You should receive a new debit card in the mail from the bank before your current card expires.

Debit Card EMV Chip

A Europay, Mastercard, and Visa (EMV) microchip is located on the front of your card and is used to protect you from fraud. The addition of this advanced technology gives you and your bank account extra fraud protection as it makes it hard to duplicate the data on your card compared to the magnetic strip.
