An endorsement allows you to operate a certain type of commercial motor vehicle and transport specific items. There is additional testing required to obtain an
endorsement and, in some cases, you will be required to hold a commercial learner permit (CLP) for that endorsement for at least 14 days before being able to add it to your CDL. Additional training, called the Entry Level Driver Training, is required
after February 7, 2022. The types of endorsements you can apply for are listed in the chart below:
RestrictionsA restriction code may be placed on any type of driver license or commercial driver license. This is not meant to interfere with your driving but to make you a better driver. Should you wish to have a restriction code removed you should visit a driver license office. The chart below describes the types of restrictions that may be placed on a driver license:
Which CDL endorsement pays the most?Your Class A CDL will generally be able to garner you the highest wages of any type of truck driver. Most students who graduate with their Class A CDL will get into over-the-road (OTR) trucking.
Are endorsements the same as points? An endorsement on your driving licence means that you have been given points which will remain on your licence until they expire - depending on the type of offence committed, this is usually four or eleven years. You can check your penalty points status for your licence online.
What is the highest CDL license?A Class C CDL is the last license class and it covers the rest, i.e. what Class A and B do not. It authorizes the holder to drive any single vehicle with a GVWR of less than 26,000 pounds, given that the towed vehicle has a GVWR of less than 10,000 pounds.
What happens if you get 6 points on your license UK?Your licence will be cancelled (revoked) if you get 6 or more points within 2 years of passing your test.
