Product Questions (1)

Our universal garage door bottom weather seal kits from North Shore Commercial Door will fit the bottom of any standard garage door. Choose a universal garage door bottom track replacement retainer with weather seal kit in sizes that will fit doors ranging from 9 ft. to 18 ft. in width.

When installed, this seal will block cold or hot drafts. It will stop rain, snow, dust, dirt, and pests from entering your garage. The flexible vinyl adapts to eliminate gaps between garage doors and uneven garage floors and will stay flexible to temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees Fahrenheit.

Choose one of three thicknesses to fit the thickness of your garage door bottom: 1 3/8 in., 1 3/4 in. or 2 in. If the kit listed is not an exact fit, you can use a pair of ordinary scissors to cut the vinyl seal to fit your garage door's size, and a handsaw to cut the retainer.

Product Highlights:

 • Aluminum retainer + flex-vinyl weather seal
 • Fits any garage door style
 • Order for door widths of 9 ft. or 18 ft.
 • Can be cut to customize size
 • Order for door thickness of 1 3/8 in., 1 3/4 in. or 2 in.

When you order, you will receive a 9 ft. kit of aluminum with two retainers, each at 4 ft. 6 in. (4'6"); or an 18 ft. kit with four retainers, each at 4 ft. 6 in. (4'6"). You will also receive a 4 in. T vinyl weather seal. The 9 ft. kit comes with one (1) 9 ft. long vinyl seal. The 18 ft. kit comes with one (1) 18 ft. long vinyl seal.

We know that garage doors are not all the same thickness. To help you order the best kit for your application we have designed our kits to be used on doors of various thicknesses and widths. We offer 3 different thickness of retainers 1-3/8", 1-3/4", and 2". Then we break it down even further by offering single door kits which consist of enough retainer and seal to do a door up to 9' in width or a double door kit that will cover a door up to 18' in width. If your door is not exactly the size of our kits, they can easily be cut down to the size you need. The retainer can be cut with a handsaw and the seal portion can be cut with household scissors if needed.

QUESTION: Can I attach the aluminum vertical part of the track to the garage door with the screws rather than attach from the bottom of the garage door? by Mary S 6/21/2017

QUESTION: Would the vertical part bend a little to take up floor gap in the middle of garage floor? by Sandy V 3/27/2017

ANSWER: My garage floor is pretty flat. When the garage door is closed there is no gap between the floor and the rubber The weatherstripping appears to flatten a little in the closed position. by Cornelia M a

ANSWER: Not really, because it is made to be ridged. The vertical part is about 2 inches high, therefore this will not allow it to bend to conform to any differences you may have in your floor below where the door will close. The seal itself should take up any gaps, if minor, to seal. by Max M a

ANSWER: It's extruded aluminum. It might bend a little, but I wouldn't try it. by Bill D a

ANSWER: The vertical parts can bend slightly but please note that would then cause an issue with the garage door seal to move smoothly across. I would suggest getting a seal used on the ground which might help. by Juan V a

ANSWER: Answer for Sandy V. :

Not sure what you mean. But be advised, this part actually arrives in 3 foot sections. You attach them to the door, then slide on the rubber seal.

Hope this helps, feel free to email with more specific questions.

Steve Delaware by Steve U a

ANSWER: For the kit I used, the retainer/channel came in two pieces, about 5' each. When assembled, they meet in the middle with no affect on the seal coverage. But that might give you the opportunity to create some slight curvature to take up the gap created by the dip in the floor. It is aluminum, so it can probably take some reshaping, although it isn't going to give a lot. You may need to increase the number of mounting screws to help force it down to cover properly. Thinking about it some more, you could cut slots in the vertical if a more radical bend is needed. Again, with more mounting screws to hold the curvature, the gasket would conform if the pressure was consistent when the door was closed. by Don K a

ANSWER: yes it will bend or compress as long as the door compresses the outsides so the center meets by Michael S a

QUESTION: What part of the track do you measure for seal size? by Ron C 9/16/2016

ANSWER: Measure the thickness of the door. by Bill D a

ANSWER: I measured each portion, metal part and rubber part, separately. by Steve U a

ANSWER: FRom my experience you measure the bottom of the door from corner to corner. The track gasket would need to be approximately 1 to 2 inches longer than the wide of the door and you would tuck it back to fit. by Juan V a

ANSWER: The real size is measure the width bottom of the "L" channel and order how long you will need of the gasket depend on how wide is your garage door. by thanh n a

ANSWER: I am unclear what you are asking. As is shown in the ad on line, this is L shaped and fits on the bottom of the door. the door thickness will give you what size kit to order. My doors are on a commercial warehouse, so they are big. I got the 2" wide retainer. The door was pretty bent up. so I did the best I could in mounting the retainer. Once bolted in place, the seal slipped right in and it has held up well for a year now. by Don K a

QUESTION: my metal door panel is 1 1/2 thick should i buy 1 3/8 or 1 3/4 retainer kit? by Thom p 9/13/2016

ANSWER: I would by the slightly narrowed one. The angle is really just a means to secure it to the door and hold the seal in place. The bulb does the actual sealing and being 1/8" narrower won't effect the bulb sealing action by RICH B a

ANSWER: I would go with the 1 3/4. If it sticks out 1/4 inch on the inside you won't notice it. If you go 1 3/8 the bottom of your door won't be completely protected. This is what I did and I am very happy with the results. by John G a

What is the best material for a garage door seal?

For sealing the bottom of a residential garage door, use a standard vinyl bottom seal. If you live in a particularly hot or cold climate, we recommend upgrading from vinyl to an EPDM seal. It has the same look as vinyl, but it won't crack or stick in extreme temperatures (though unlike vinyl, EPDM only comes in black).

What is the rubber strip under a garage door called?

Garage door seals are also known as weatherstripping and astragal. Seals are found around all four edges of the garage door. The purpose of a weather seal is to keep insects and critters out of the garage while also keeping moisture and cold air from seeping through the cracks around the garage door.
