How long does it take to learn the basics of figure skating? The average time to start working on it might be about 5 years after first starting lessons. Some natural jumpers who train seriously might be ready to start it after 2 or 3 years of lessons, especially if they started in the pre-teen years.
Can a beginner use figure skates?Advantages for the beginner
For a beginner, the figure skates are often considered a better option because they feel more stable: the blade is longer, the toe pick stops the skater from going too far forward on the blade and the tail prevents from leaning too far back.
What age should you start figure skating?Kids can start skating lessons as early as 3, but keep in mind that your 3-year old may not be ready to be away from you or have the attention span for a 20 to 30 minute lesson. By 5 to 6 years of age they'll have the balance and coordination needed to master the more complex movements of figure skating.
How do I start figure skating?Whether you want to learn to figure skate, are getting your kids into the sport or want to develop your skills as a family, the only way to get started is to head to your local rink.
