You can DIY this for $30-40. Buy on sale and oil is about $20-25, filter should be $5-10. I bought a few years worth of synthetic oil for my BMW from that walmart deal for $10/5L jug. I get my filters online for about $5-7.

You're taking your car to Jiffy Lube, so I guess you don't care about it too much. $130 is crazy still. You could probably get it changed for $50 or less at a Mazda/Toyota dealer that offers cheap oil changes. Do they do them on other brands too?

Fair enough, though I used to do it in my Condo at High Park. I had a vacuum extractor so I wouldn't even have to get under the car as mine has a top mount filter. Yours might be on top too.
That said, I would recommend Altech on Islington for any car work. I used to have them mount my wheels and do my alignment when I lived there. They probably would do oil changes as well, and probably for less than Jiffy most likely a better job.

Ive always wondered.. Why is it so much more expensive for oil changes for german cars even at jiffy lube type places? Synthetic isnt that much more than conventional? Maybe a few bucks more for the filter.

Luxury car markup. Same with Apple stuff. They do specify more expensive oil, but not that much. They basically price it as high as people are willing to pay. It used to be common for lots of people to do oil changes at home, but people are becoming less and less handy these days. Every problem can be fixed with spending more money. Gotta keep up with the Jones' and have that big house and luxury car, then work yourself to death to pay for it all. No wonder Canada has such high personal debt levels.

"Premium" brands always charge more for service. If you compare Toyota vs. Lexus, you'll see the same thing as VW vs Audi. The "Premium" brand mechanics typically charge more per hour as well, in addition to the more expensive parts (bigger markup on parts). If you are concerned about maintenance costs, don't buy a premium brand.

Their cost is slightly higher on the synthetic, but the mark up accounts for most of the price difference. They are just making more money on the synthetic oil than they are on conventional.

1. They have bigger oil pans - 6 to 7L+ vs 4L for a regular car
2. They have special euro spec oils by manufacturer - BMW LL01, VW504/507, MB 229.X so you just can't use ordinary bulk synthetic for cars still under warranty
3. Special tool to reset oil minder ?

It’s not just markup though. German cars typically use double the oil what Japanese cars use.

How much is the filter from the dealership? I would buy the filter and oil and ask a garage to do it for $20.

My dealer charges 189+tax for an oil change. Most Audi owners have pre-paid maintenance with their lease or audi care. To DIY will still be about 80$ + whatever your time is worth.

Keep in mind if you still have warranty on your car you should do the work at the dealership for less fuss should you need to make a claim.

They are all the same when you get into luxury brands. WTH is wrong with people getting into these brands and expect dealer to charge backyard mechanic prices on services?

Heck, even a great VAG mechanic in my area charges $90 for an oil change. Jiffy Lube is fine if it's a small one and worked by a good owner. Otherwise, you will just get some 18 year old that are sloppy. Heard story about kids not installed the undercarriage cover properly and it drops during highway speed. You get what you paid for.

FYI, even Toyota charges about $1K for 3 years of maintenance services. Sure it's 3 more services than the Germans but it ain't any cheaper.

Can Audi oil be changed anywhere?
