Best Air Fryer Chicken

  • Everyone loves the ease of the air fryer!
  • It makes foolproof juicy chicken that’s perfect every time.
  • The air fryer means minimal prep and cleanup.

  • Make in batches and place all thighs in the air fryer for about 2-3 minutes at 400°F to heat through before serving.

Ingredients & Variations

CHICKEN The air fryer takes chicken from so-so to amazing! Skin on or skin off, boneless or bone-in, choose pieces that are of a relative size so they cook at the same rate. This recipe is for boneless thighs, if your thighs are bone-in, you’ll need to change the cooking time and add the sauce later so it doesn’t burn.

SAUCE Choose your sauce! Use teriyaki as per the recipe or even a favorite stir fry sauce or hoisin; all will make a delicious sticky glaze. Choose a teriyaki sauce that is thick, like the consistency of bbq sauce. We add garlic for a boost of flavor but feel free to use 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder in place or a dash of cayenne pepper for a little heat.

Teriyaki sauce is salty so I don’t find the need to add extra salt but you can season the chicken with pepper and your favorites spices.

How Long to Cook Boneless Chicken Thighs in Air Fryer

This Air Fryer Chicken recipe is easy to make and boneless skinless chicken thighs are ready in no time!

  1. Toss chicken with the sauce.
  2. Place in a single layer in the air fryer basket (per recipe below).
  3. Air fry until fully cooked and crispy on the outside, about 17-20 minutes at 380°F.

Tip: Use a meat thermometer placed in the thickest part of the meat to ensure the chicken is fully cooked. It should read 165ºF.

Tips for Crispy Air Fryer Chicken

  • Pat chicken pieces dry with a clean paper towel before saucing so the sauce sticks before the pieces are added to the air fryer.
  • There is no need to flip the chicken.
  • Always place the pieces in a single layer so the hot air can circulate around each piece making the outsides extra crispy.
  • Don’t overcrowd the air fryer.
  • If using bone-in chicken, the cooking time will increase. The sauce will need to be added later in the cooking process so it doesn’t burn.
