2015 Chrysler 200 engine oil capacity

First and foremost, how much engine oil does a 2015 Chrysler 200 require?

Your Chrysler has two engine options—if you have a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine, then your oil capacity will be 5.9 quarts or 5.5 liters. If your Chrysler has a 3.6-liter V6 engine, your oil capacity is 5.5 quarts or 5.2 liters.

Keep in mind that the oil capacity is not the same as the engine displacement. Engine displacement refers to the 2.4-liters/3.6-liters that the engine's cylinders occupy. When you change the oil in your car, the oil capacity tells you how much oil you'll need.

The engine displacement number has nothing to do with how much oil it can hold.

What kind of oil does a 2015 Chrysler 200 need?

We've determined how much oil your 2015 Chrysler 200 will need, so now we have to decide which type of oil to use! There are many kinds of engine oil, and picking the right one can make a massive difference in how well your engine works.

Since the 2015 Chrysler 200 has two engine options, the type of engine oil you should use will differ depending on your engine capacity. If you have a 2.4-liter engine, Chrysler recommends that you use 0W-20 engine oil and 5W-20 engine oil for the 3.6-liter engine model

These numbers indicate the viscosity of the oil, so you must follow Chrysler's recommendations to keep your car in shape. The W means winter, so the number 5W and 0W tells us that when it's cold, the oil will be thin (or have a low viscosity). The 20 tells us how thick the oil is at 212°F, which is the normal operating temperature.

Synthetic oil is an artificial lubricant made from a blend of chemical compounds and is thought to be the ideal fluid for your engine. Conventional oil is less expensive, thinner, and requires more frequent replacement than synthetic oil.

We’ve got some suggestions for what kind of motor oil you should use in your Chrysler:

How often to change oil on a 2015 Chrysler 200

You should change the oil in your 2015 Chrysler 200 every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. Because you use synthetic oil in your engine, which lasts longer than regular oil, you don't have to change the oil as often.

It's a good idea to check your oil levels regularly just to be safe. Or, keep an eye out for these signs that it's time to change your oil:

  • Strange sounds are coming from the engine

  • New odors, particularly anything like oil, smoke, or burning

  • Changes in how well your car runs

How to change your oil and oil filter

When it's time to change the oil, you can either head to the mechanic or do it yourself. No matter what you choose, you'll probably need to change your oil filter at the same time.

If you decide to get the job done at home, you’ll have to get some tools ready. You'll need a drain pan, a filter wrench, a socket wrench, a new filter, and a bottle of your selected motor oil.

Start by warming up your engine to its normal operating temperature, then turn off the engine and wait a second for it to cool down. Then just follow these steps:

  • Take off the oil cap

  • Remove the oil drain bolt and washer from beneath the engine. This will empty the old oil into the drain pan

  • Take out the old filter and put in the new filter

  • Once the oil is drained, put a new washer on the oil drain bolt

  • Pour fresh oil into the engine

  • Put the fill cap back on

When you're finished, use your dipstick to ensure your engine has enough oil. Then, start the car and keep an eye out for any leaks or drips—if everything looks alright, you’re ready to go!

The last thing to do is clean up! Don't dump old oil on the ground or toss it away. Instead, place it in a lidded container and transport it to a recycling facility near you.
