Great value for an older model truck

This resolved my issue at a fraction of the cost of new from a dealer. Since my truck is an older model and not a daily driver, I would have probably not fixed the issue if not for the price of this "pre-owned" part that has worked flawlessly.

Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned

  • 1992 Toyota 4-runner 82,000 miles 6 cyl - the rear anti lock brake light stays on, and one service station told me it was probably a sensor and that I would probably have to pump my brakes. This has been fine until recently on a wet hill I had to come to a stop and found that I could not do so even pumping as normal. As I applied more pressure the rear end started to swing to the left. I have front brakes but the rear really does not seem to be there. I plan to have it really looked at seriously, however my question is if the sensor is what is wrong, could that cause the brakes to fail, or is it merely telling me that the brakes are not working. Some sensors are needed to tell the brakes what to do, others are just idiot lights telling YOU to have it serviced. I have heard horror stories that it could cost thousands to repair the rear anti lock brake system and my poor old SUV is not worth that much and I can't afford thousands for repairs nor to buy another vehicle.

    A 22RE is a 2.4l 4 cylinder, a 3VZE is a 3.0l V6.

Personally I don't recall any pickups from our era with ABS. Are you sure that the "ABS" light is what you are seeing? Or are you seeing the red "BRAKE" warning light come on?

If it is the red "BRAKE" warning light then top up the brake fluid.

If it is the ABS light then let us know that along with the pertinent info about the exact model of your truck.

    Hope this helps

fair enough - its a 3vze 6 cylinder sr5 package. Rear anti lock warning light (not red parking brake light) is the problem. need to figure out where the sensor is and try to replace.
    thanks.

rear abs was an option on these trucks, at least my 93 has/had it. The sensor (called Speed Sensor oin FSM) plugs into the top of the rear differential 3rd member housing. See page SA–134 or BR–96 of the 1993 FSM. It is held on by 2 bolts. Needs to be removed to remove the third member.

    FSM says, check trouble codes.

    "...

    3. READ DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE
    (a) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    (b) Disconnect the service connector.
    SST 09843–18020
    (c) Using SST, connect the terminal Tc to E, of the data link connector 1.
    (d) In event of a malfunction, 4 seconds later the warning light will begin to blink. Read the number of blinks.
(See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE on page
    BR–75)
HINT: The first number of blinks will equal the first digit of a two digit diagnostic trouble code. After a 1.5 seconds pause, the 2nd number of blinks will equal the 2nd number of a two digit code. If there are two or more codes, there will be a 2.5 seconds pause between each, and indication will begin after 4.0 seconds pause from the smaller value and continue in order to larger.
    (e) If the system is operating normally (no malfunction), the warning light will blink 2 times per second...."

I replaced my 3rd unit with one from a donor 4runner and forgot to take off the sensor :/ i needed one cus mine got ripped off when i dropped the old third unit on the floor (still dont know what made me think i was gone try an "catch?" it). turns out the wire ain't that strong . The donor vehicle, crushed 6 days later. remembered afterwards. welcome to my life :disappoin

amazingly, i would have no dash lights (o2 sensor dont count mine goes on and off sometimes) if it weren't for that one. oh well.

What does rear anti lock light mean?

By Rick Popely. December 28, 2017. CARS.COM — ABS stands for antilock braking system, and if the ABS warning light is illuminated in your car's gauge cluster, that means the antilock system has been deactivated because of a malfunction. Related: ABS System: What You Need to Know.

What causes ABS light to come on Toyota 4runner?

At higher mileages, an anti-lock brake system wheel speed sensor may wear out and illuminate the ABS warning light. It is recommended to replace the sensor with a factory part and be sure to clean all rust and debris from the mounting area because the mounting distance is critical.
